1 Chorinthians 10:23-33

Do All to the Glory of God

23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” 27 If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— 29 I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else’s conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?

31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

Happy Anniversary Honey!

The problem with Conspiracy Theorists

Over the last year and a bit, having had probably too much time to spend reading this article and that news item, people have begun to label me as a “conspiracy theorist”. I have been called much worse so at first this did not upset me. However, over further discussion a problem in the narrative began to trouble me. This problem had to do with the fatalist persona of the traditional conspiracy theorist. Wearing no pants, tin foil hat proudly donned upon his cranium to prevent aliens from liquefying his brain, and of course an archaic mobile home to ferry his paranoid delusions around the country, this poor wandering soul would bewail the atrocities of big government and the deception of the moon landing. However appealing life without pants might be, this was not the self-portrait that I would have painted (not me without pants, but me as a conspiracy theorist). This traditional defeatist attitude was what I had the most problem with. When warning about a pending financial disaster, or the implosion of the socialist nanny state, the automatic response was how negative I was and how depressing it was to hear these things. This was not the response that I expected, and I realised that I had to learn to couple the sovereign kingship of Jesus Christ and how His hand is at work, even in these seemingly terrible developments.

Psalm 2:1-6

2:1 Why do the nations rage [1]
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,
6 “As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”
